About me.

I commenced my insurance career in 1979 with Sun Alliance Insurance Group (now RSA) in Cork.

This was followed by a move to Dublin in 1981 and subsequent promotions to positions in Limerick, Sligo and Galway with RSA.

I have a very strong background in Insurance underwriting, sales and surveying, having held senior positions in these areas during my time with RSA. 

In 2014 after a career spanning 35 years with RSA, I decided to branch out on my own to develop other insurance-related opportunities, where I had seen a gap, like training and development and helping other insurance professionals achieve their career goals.

Along with a lengthy Insurance career, I hold the highest insurance qualifications, having achieved both the ACII and FCII qualifications.

I am uniquely placed to understand the needs of business, being also a qualified Accounting Technician (IATI).

In 2020 I completed a post-graduate L9 Certificate in Teaching Learning and Assessment in IT Sligo (now Atlantic Technological University, ATU) to enable me to share my knowledge successfully with others.

I now spend my time between ATU Sligo where I lecture in the BA (Hons) in Insurance Practice and looking after my clients through O’Mahony Training which involves insurance lecturing, exam preparation and training for insurance personnel, delivery of CPD accredited lectures and completing insurance surveys for both insurers and brokers.

O’Mahony Training Ltd is considered the foremost general insurance training provider and I have worked with many leading insurers and brokers throughout Ireland. 

Courses have been presented on many technical and general topics ranging from Liability, Property Damage, and Business interruption Insurance to Household & Private Motor policy wordings.

In April 2020, I presented 4 one-hour CPD lectures to almost 1,000 attendees for the Insurance Institute of Ireland online CPD series using Zoom as the delivery platform.  Since then, there has been an increase in the number of online lectures provided with delivery times to suit attendees whenever possible.
